Let's assume, that the renegade Templars fled France by ship, carrying with them the treasure of the Order of the Knights before Christ. They disappeared into the night, leaving the citizens of La Rochell in wonder.

Where did they go?

Templars were experienced sea-farers and fresh Knights were transported, including horses, to Jerusalem by their own fleet.

You would say, they could have gone anywhere. Theoretically speaking. There are stories the Templars sailed to Japan, but the fugitives did not leave the Middle-East, but from Western-Europe, facing the Atlantic Ocean.

They sailed West. Desperate or planned there were some options the Knights Templar had.

Sail West and then south, to hide in Portugal. It is for sure, fugitive Knights found shelter here and even stimulated the Portugese seafarers to investigate the shores of Africa. A possible Templar-treasure in Portugal is not mentioned in the documents.

Did the Knights Templar sail to America? Surely the Vikings reached that far and tales of their journeys to Iceland, Greenland and Nova-Scotia, must have been heard by the Order. They had their free-houses and castles throughout Western-Europe. It is for sure, that the Templars were warned in advance about the deadly plot, forged by Philip “the Beautiful”, king of France and the Pope. Jacques the Molay, the current Grandmaster of the Templars, stayed behind and payed with his life for this.

Columbus reached America and so could have the Templars. And a strange phenomenon, called the “money-pitt”, found on the Canadian Oak-island. It is a hole in the ground, which have been excavated and dug out during the last 200 years.

It's is a 90 meters deep sink-hole, partly flooded, that is said to lead to an enormous treasure. The hole is intriguing. Manmade, supported by wooden posts and isolated with coconut-fiber. Coconut-trees are not found in the region.

A stone with inscriptions was found and lost. Divers reporting about treasure-chests and strange sculptures, stimulate explorers.

Another candidate for the hide-out of the Templar Treasure is Roslynn chapel in Scotland. Build in the 15e century, the chapel is decorated with intriguing Templar symbols and ornaments. Maverick archeologists located a vault under the chapel, but untill now any excavation on the grounds is denied.

What kind of conditions the Templars would prefer?

Animosity with France would be one, away from the mainstream of Europe to regroup. Freedom was important. Freedom to live in the lands and slowly disappear. No authorities or strict rules. Last but not least it should be a christian country.

Roslynn is in so far a possibility, that Templars were present in Scotland and England. Many were buried here. Templar Knights are said to have fought side-by-side the Scots against the English king. But we will never know if this claim is true, untill the Board of the chapel admits exploration.
