Dear Verenigd Links, The Animal Legal Defense Fund recently released undercover video footage documenting a system that exploits both workers and animals from inside a Tyson Foods’ Texas slaughter plant in Carthage, Texas. The extremely fast speed at which chickens are slaughtered greatly increases the possibility of equipment jamming in processing plants, makes it impossible to handle the birds in a humane fashion, and creates safety concerns for Tyson Foods employees. The investigation shows numerous animal welfare violations and dangerous and unsanitary conditions for the workers. The investigation into Tyson also revealed that the company overstates the priority it places on animal welfare in corporate and investor materials.
