Student: “Master, during our conversation yesterday, you mentioned Lilith, who also escaped from Eden. Who is she? Was she Adam's first wife?”

Master: “According to Jewish folklore she was. But the two were not compatible. Adam wanted dominance and obedience during sexual intercourse. Lilith could not accept this and wanted to break up with Adam. God did not want any disturbance of his divine plan and sent several angels to solve the problem. Lilith refused and, after speaking the secret name of God, disappeared into thin air.”

Student: “After which He created Eve to compensate Adam.”

Master: “Remember we talking cryptic metaphores now, don't take them literally. But, yes, you could say so. But it was Eve, who solved the riddle and opened Adam's eyes.”

Student: “What happened to Lilith, Master, where did she go?”

Master: “The Church and superstition turned Lilith into an evil spirit, who seduced young men, who were travelling alone, in their sleep. Lilith was supposed to steal and murder unattended babies. In the Dark Ages, she was a so called succubus, a very dark spirit of sexual seduction.

But the times change; the demonic Lilith is forgotten. In Wicca-circles Lilith stands for equality of women and female independence.”
