Student: “Master, there have been clashes between the army of Israel and Palestinian youngsters on and near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. It has been going on for weeks and there seems no end in sight.”

Master: “At first glance, you seem to be right.”

Student: “And at second glance, Master, what do you see.”

Master: “I see young men and women programmed and indoctrinated to keep an ancient fire burning and willing to sacrifice their life for the greater good. But these soldiers and vandals are badly informed about the legitimacy of the Jewish or the Palestinian claimes on the Holy Land.”

Student: “The Holy Bible states, that God promised Israel to his chosen people. In 1948 God's promise was fulfilled and Israel as an independent state was established. So I learned, Master.”

Master: ” Two states were created in 1948. Israel and Palestine, in a region dominated by Islamic empires. Jerusalem was a Islamic city, ruled by the Turkish Ottomans untill 1917. The whole area was reshuffled by England and France, which led to the creation of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi-Arabia, Lebanon and Palestine, ruled by the British. They created this mess in the first place.”

Student: “So, the conflict is much older, than many think, Master.”

Master: “You can say that much. The Romans renamed the area Syria Palestina, because of the violent uprisings by the Jews and drove them out of the country. By using that name, the Romans referred to the Philistines, a tribe who lived in Canaan before the Israelites returned from Egypt, and who were each-other arch-enemies. David killed Goliath, a Philistine warrior-giant and founded his kingdom. In a way, history is repeating itself. Young fanatics throwing stones at Israelian tanks.”

Student: “Thank you, Master.”
